Clay Texture in Pots and Wheel throwing Videos

Texture on clay pots can come in many forms.  I have listed some examples as well as posted pictures from blogs of different potters.

These are pictures from Joy Tanners blog.  She carves into leather hard clay to make beautiful assymetrical patters.  She fills in different patterns with engobes and then soda fires her clay pieces for some warm orange earthy glazes results.

Perfect for your favorite cereal and fruit, or beautiful with a fresh green salad, this bowl is just for you, or that pottery lover you know. I hand carved the leaf pattern into this softly squared wheel thrown pot. The notched base invites you to inspect this handmade pot closer to see each detail.Wheel thrown and carved stoneware and fired using waste wood in a wood kiln; which gives you those beautiful rich, warm earth tones contrasted with the olive green pooled glaze in the carving.

Texture can also come from visual means as you can see in the images below from Michael Kline Pottery and the Sawdust and Dirt Pottery Blog.

I’ve worked day and night to get the 300 or so pots painted and glazed for Thursday’s firing. Here are a few pictures from the shop.
