This year we setup for our 2nd annual pottery sale. The studio will be officially 4 years old in January, and this is our second sale held at the studio. All the other sales were trial sales done at either Young Circle or at a Temple during the Holidays.
Setting up for the pottery sale is a sneaky way to get people involved back into the studio and contribute their time in beautifying the studio under a unified guise. In a way it is underhanded of me, because my main objective isn’t so much the sale as it is to get people to clean out their shelves and get the studio back organized, and it is a reminder to everyone involved that the studio is a shared space for everyone to work comfortably, and hopefully when the new year starts they think twice about putting away the tools they use in the right spots.
So if you have a shared pottery studio and have problems with getting people to pitch in, I highly recommend this ploy. It is a win-win for everyone. If you get good sales, the studio wins by taking a percentage of the sale, the people who participate win by selling things that they have made and makes room for more stuff in their homes, and you win by getting everyone to pitch in and organize!
In either case you can stop by the studio and check out the new organization on December 11 and 12, 2010 from 10am-3pm.
