3 Day Workshop

World Recognized author of Mid Fire Glaze Making

Workshop Details

Day 1: (9 am- 5 pm) The hands on portion of this workshop will focus on making glaze recipes, and color blend test samples. Working in pairs, we will prepare glazes, add a range of colorants and glaze materials and apply the glazes to studio-provided test tiles using 3 types of clay, porcelain, white stoneware and brown stoneware clays. Together, we will make 100’s of sample glazes and learn about the impact of glaze ingredients on the end glaze.

Day 2 (9 am- 5 pm) The focus will be presentation and discussion of glaze materials, oxides, clays, slips, cones, kilns, firing dynamics and principles as well as applying those principles to various firing cycles. We will discuss how and why each type of glaze works and how you can achieve them, how to adjust your glazes and how to find new ones.

Day 3 (10 am- 3 pm) We will look at and discuss test results.
